How to Make an Extra $3,000 with Mystery Shopping

Looking for a legitimate way to earn some extra money can be a difficult task with so many “get rich quick” and offers that promise to bring in easy money by working at home, stuffing envelopes five hours a week. It’s no wonder why people get discouraged and think that it is not possible to get ahead financially in today’s world. Well, I’m here to tell you that it is possible to easily make an extra $3000 or more, just by signing up for two to three mystery shopping assignments per week.

You may be asking yourself, how is this even possible? This may sound “too good to be true” but I assure you, friends, that it isn’t. By being disciplined to sign up and complete a few mystery shops each week can increase your household income by $3000 per year. Not a bad way to bring in some extra cash just by doing the activities we do every day like grocery shopping, filling up the gas tank, or eating out at a restaurant.

There are mystery shopping opportunities virtually everywhere, the key is to continually build your mystery shopping company portfolio, and regularly complete these shops on a weekly basis. If you do that, the money is guaranteed to come. If a shopper completed three mystery shopping assignments weekly at $20 each, they would earn $60 every week. By multiplying $60 by 50 weeks, (giving yourself 2 weeks off for the holidays) will add an extra $3000 to your annual salary.

By regularly checking out helpful mystery shopping resources like the Mystery Shop Forum, Mystery Shopping Magazine, and the Mystery Shoppers Providers Association, (MSPA) you will be able to network with some of the best mystery shoppers and top mystery shop companies in the world.  This is a wonderful and honest way to make a significant amount of extra income. If you have any helpful mystery shopping hints for those getting into the business, please feel free to comment below.

It sounds appealing but something I do find is that if you live in smaller centers there is not the volume of shops available.

I have that issue also! My area doesn’t have many shoppers though, so I pick up the shops that are a distance I wouldn’t normally do for one or two $20.00 shops. If you do this and do a route, combining more shops for one company or maybe shops for two or more different companies especially if they are offering bonus’ you can do really well! Some restrictions though on amount of times you can do them in a period of time, for example some you can only do the shop once in a 3 month period. Or some others you can only do one a day 4 in a week! That type of situation, I still don’t have an issue. I work about 6-8 days a month and do way better than $3k a years. As they say work smarter not harder. Although working that way is very demanding and a quite a bit of work in a short period of time!

Thanks Chris…Great insight. I usually avoid shops that are a distant from my home. But going a distant, and working my way back home twice a week instead of everyday shot runs sounds like a wonderful idea.

I am going to try that technique of shopping immediately.

Mystery shops are just average. The company needs to consider three factors Cost of travel, cost of Food, and cost of time. combining all three factors will give a proper cost mechanism. Many companies get 100% but pay just 10% to their shoppers which needs to be increased periodically.

Yes…to all of the above. Also, the actual survey itself is very much the most time consuming part of the process, especially when company survey forms require huge amounts of expository writing. These situations limit the number of shops you can do in a 2-day period (assuming one is fortunate enough to have a two days in a row for a weekend…after working a brick-and-mortar, full-time job.

Here is a good website. Go to volition.com on front page you will see a line that says “There is more to …..than Mystery Shopping” on next line you’ll see “click here”. Click on it and you’ll see “GET PAID FOR SHOPPING” USA Companies A–G, H-P, Q-Z. Go to as many of the companies website and sign up to be a shopper. Never pay a fee to join. You will find hundreds of companies who need shoppers. You are sure to find shops in your area. These are all legitimate companies.Keep in mind that if the shop requires you to purchase something you will have to tie your money up for a while but you will be reimbursed by the company. You will have to send them a receipt showing you purchased what ever was required. Plus they tell you up front what the shop pays in addition to your reimbursed. This is not a get rich scheme, if you work at it you can make some extra money. Many times it is for something you had to buy anyway, such as gasoline for your auto. Hope this helps

I think that a company that is a member of MSPA is held to certain high standards.

I am 78 and work everyday. I am always looking for a liget part time job. But it is hard to find a company that you can trust.I agree you have got to be paid a good amount to cover everything to do this job. If not it is not for me.

People will always find excuses not to want to do something, if they don’t want to do it. If you want to pick up some extra money, it can be done with mystery shopping. If you don’t want to don’t. There are plenty of companies out there who will pay you to do shops for them. I know because I have done it now for several years. One company will pay you for $5 of gas and $1 for some item inside and pay you an additional $6 for the shop. It may take them a couple of weeks to pay you but you will be paid when the shops are completed. If you do a route around town you will get a free tank of gas. You had to buy the gas anyway. Sure you have to fill out the reports and do whatever the MS company wanted you to do, but I never had a job that didn’t require me to do something. The stores you go in hire the MS company to check there Stores and there customer service, so you are paid to check the stores out for them. If you go to the website I posted above you can find hundreds of MS companies.I realize there are scams out there, but these companies on this website have been doing mystery shops for years and they will pay if you do the shop and get the info they want. You know what is required when you take the assignment and what it pays. You should never pay a fee a sign up with them and you can shop for as many as you want. Some may not have shops in your area others will. I’m probably signed up with 50 companies. Fast food shops, fine restaurants, convenience stores, movie theaters, churches, I saw one the other day for a shop at a funeral home. All kinds of business have mystery shops.

I WILL NOT trust ANY mystery shopper program AGAIN!!!!! About 12 years ago, I did sign up for a couple assignments, I received a cashiers check for around 2,400.00 which I deposited into my saving account, 7 days later, it cleared the bank and Itook half it the money and sent it via western union to another mystery shopper somewhere else, and did my assignment, 7 months later, I get a letter in the mail from my bank stating that my cashiers check was a counterfeit and I now owed the bank -$1,950.00 TO this date I’m still owing the bank $814.00 because of that. So NO THANK YOU!!! Unless your going to send me the $814.00 to make up for your mess up…….

    • Walter says:

First of all Paul I had nothing to do with your situation and I’m sorry you were scammed. So I did not mess up you were the one that messed up when you cashed the check. People real mystery shopping companies will never send you a large check and ask you to send them money back they do not operate like that, so if you get something like that tear the check up and go on with your life. If you go to the website I told you about or to the MSPA website there are hundreds of legitimate Mystery Shopping companies to sign up with and if you want to you can make some extra money, not get rich, but you can make some extra money.
