Mystery shopping is a great way to make some extra cash, and it’s something that anyone can do. However, mystery shopping can be time consuming, particularly if you’re new to it. Since mystery shopping jobs pay a flat fee, the slower your shop, the lower your “hourly rate” will be. Here are some easy ways to shop more efficiently, so you can make more money in less time.
Choose jobs that are concentrated in one area.
If you’re going to be scheduling multiple mystery shops in a day, try to choose jobs that are located in the same neighborhood. Ideally, you would be able to walk between each job, but even jobs that are less than a 10 minute drive from each other will work. If you have a mall or a dense commercial shopping center nearby, these are great places to look for jobs. The less time you have to spend getting from place to place, the more time you can spend getting the job done, and you’ll make more per hour.
Specialize in one or two types of jobs.
There are so many different types of mystery shopping jobs available, and each have their own unique requirements. For example, shopping a restaurant is going to be very different from shopping your local dentist or an apartment complex. If you have a specific type of job you like, try to focus on those jobs. You’ll develop a good understanding of the job requirements and you’ll get faster at completing the reports. Specializing in video mystery shops can be particularly lucrative, so if you have the equipment, this is a great place to start.
Choose jobs that offer bonuses.
If a mystery shopping job has been up for a long time and no one has taken it, companies will slowly increase their payout rates for those jobs. Be savvy when choosing jobs – select jobs that offer bonuses whenever you can, and try to avoid jobs with very low rates or time-consuming requirements. To determine the value of a job, estimate how long it will take you to complete it – a $25 job that takes less than an hour will be more worthwhile than a $75 job that takes six hours to complete. It can be tempting to try and take on as many jobs as possible, but this isn’t always an efficient use of your time.

You need to buy a PV 500 camera outfit. About $450. I have heard that you are in a good area for video shops, that is, up and down the eastern seaboard. I bet you will find a lot of new home build shops and apartment shops paying about $60-90 per shop-ish, but i don’t know what the market bears in the Carolinas. You might contact The Shadow Agency. The owner is offering a new camera set up for about $350 called Angel Eyes. Some shops specifically ask for a PV 500 so you would have to clear it with them that this new brand is acceptable. You will need to practice hard to get used to using a video camera. It is not that easy. The hard part is getting the right shirt and concocting a setup that keeps the camera still. This is where going to a convention where they hold a master class would really help you out. You would enjoy the fellowship and mystery shopping connections, too.
