This 5-Minute Mystery Shop Pays $20+

Underage drinking is a real issue that the hospitality industry faces on a day-to-day basis. In order for brewhouses, pubs, night clubs, and restaurants to stay in business, there are laws that they must follow, or else they will be put out of business. Cracking down on minors trying to purchase alcohol is a part of the challenges these businesses face every day.

Patrons usually enter an alehouse and are seated at either a table or up at the bar. Next, the bartender approaches the customer and asks the question, “Can I get you something to drink?” This is music to an underage drinker’s ears and might blurt something out like, “Rum and Coke please.”  What happens next is absolutely vital, and it may mean the difference between having a job or being unemployed, asking for ID.

Robert Smith from nightclub.com states, “In California, I asked 32 bartenders and servers who failed a minor decoy compliance check why they didn’t check the ID.  The number one answer, 25 of the 32, told me, get this now, they actually just forgot.  It was busy, they had other things on their mind and they just forgot.”

Today’s mystery shop is a quick five-minute assignment that consists of a shopper ordering an alcoholic drink at a brewhouse in Frederick, Maryland. This company is looking for men and women between the ages of 21 and 30 to report if they were asked for their identification. There are eight “yes or no” questions to complete and “that’s all folks.” Shoppers will have the opportunity to be reimbursed up to an additional $35 on top of the $20 payment for the assignment itself.
